Electric
Glider Duration and Spot Landing Contest
October 22, 2006
An
electric glider duration and spot landing contest was
organized by HKRCSS on
Sunday, 22 October,
2006. The
contest was originally scheduled to be run a
month earlier but was postponed due to
insufficient number of contestants and bad weather. The
venue of the contest
was in Sham Chung, a remote peaceful village with a beautiful grass
field rare to find in Hong Kong. The place was supposed to be a golf
course own by a private developer but was somehow open to the public
for camping for years. Recently, the owner had decided to cut off the
public access to the grass field, no camping was allowed after Mid
Autumn Festival this year. We were lucky that the village chief has
promised to allow us to hold a contest there. Of course we were glad
for this generosity, on the other hand, we felt very sad that this may
be the last chance we were allowed to hold a contest in this beautiful
place!
Anyway, this time the
trip to Sham Chung
was full of controversial. First, C.M. was chased by some unfriendly
bees and fell to ground hardly. The fall resulted in multiple injuries,
although the injuries were not so serious that we needed to call 999 to
rush him to hospital, he was unable to walk for long distance to Sham
Chung from Yung Shue O. So he had no choice but gave up his electric
Filip to the two waiting predators; Ah Mak and Fat Fai! After the
delay, we took a long but pleasant walk to Sham Chung together with
many energetic kids. On arrival, Stanley immediately pulled out his
long-waiting electric Banana for test flying. He probably forgot what
had happen few years ago on the same spot! The history repeated itself
- his Banana fell into the water pond just after about 10 seconds in
flight! Well, it's just another costly experience to him! Uncle Shing
seems to love trees a lot. He flew his Red Wing into the trees many
times resulting in some spectacular monkey-style recovery operations.
The contest was
officially started at
11:45am with 8 contestants. Ah Mak flew the electric Filip with his
magic fingers and took the longest duration of 9 minutes 43 seconds in
the first round. He immediately phoned up C.M. to report his success,
ha! ha! but not to celebrate too soon! Ah Kin was on a strike back with
his well-tuned highly competitive model,
Skysergio! He got a full 10 minutes duration
with
a highly accurate spot landing at 0.42m in the second round to take the
lead, amazing! He continued to win the rounds to the end and grabbed
the champion title, congratulation! Here is the score list:

After a
long absent from Sham Chung, we came back again.
All set! The contest was ready to start.
Sham Chung
is a good playground for the kids too!

As the main grass field was in renovation, we moved to the other field
and set up our camp to hid under the sun.
High-tech weapon? C.M.'s Filip was
ready, but... where was the pilot?
Skysergio's
belly, look like a mess to us.
The payoff to own such a high-tech
equipment was to win the contest!
Ah Mak was test-flying C.M.'s Filip.
Oop! A swimming Banana, this scene looks
familiar!
Ah Kin was confident in his highly
competitive Skysergio.
Uncle Shing from Waigo has a pretty
heavy model called Red Wing.
周公子 owns a top-of-the-line model called
Pulsar.
Fat Fai was
ready for the contest. His weapon was C.M.'s Filip.
Click and
watch a movie for Johnson launching his Skysergio. Is it a tactic to
spiral the plane up in this way?
Shooting up to
high altitude! "Someone help me to stop the sun light from interfering
my sight!"
Ah Mak looked very professional in
competing in this kind of contest.
Allan's Simple the Best was definitely
the model that shot up to the highest altitude among others,
no high-tech stuff, no LiPo and even no brushless, amazing!
Oop! Uncle
Shing loves tree. This time was no exception. Click and watch a movie
to check it out
Allan
was happy to get that close to the
target. Click and watch a movie to see how he did it.
Ah Mak's Filip
got close to the target as well. Click and watch a movie to see how he
did it.
Oop! Allan did badly this time with a
broken wing. Click and watch a movie to check it out.
Ah Mak looked confident in spot landing.
Well, well, well...., click and watch a movie to check it out.
Ah Kin was so happy to be able to zoom
in to the target so accurately.
Johnson landing his Skysergio, well not bad! Click
and watch a movie to see check it out.
The trophies were ready for the winners.
The second runner up is 周公子 (right). His Pulsar is really a top model
that we love to own.
The first runner up is Allan (left). He used pretty outdated model
together with relatively cheap gear and still got good results, well
done!
Ah Kin (left) is the champion of the day! How
come you have a pretty girl giving you the award?
Congratulation anyway!

A photo for the three winners . Smile! These winners have done a professional contest today!
A group photo for the
contestants and their family. What's a
wonderful day!
