Handlaunch Glider Duration Contest
19 February, 2006

The Hong Kong Radio Control Soaring Society organized a handlaunch glider duration contest on Sunday, 19 February 2006. The contest venue is in Shamchung. This was the first time we held a contest in Shamchung after a two-year break. We treasured the support by Mr. Li, the village chief of Shamchung. Instead of taking a boat ride, we decided to walk to Shamchung from Yung Shue O where we can park our car for a very reasonable parking fee. The walk was very enjoyable too which took about 40 minutes. There were a bit of rain early in the morning, but when we arrived at the flying site, the sky was cleared up, what's a wonderful day! A total of over 30 enthusiastic pilots and their guests took part in the trip of which 14 pilots were competing in the thermal duration contest.. Two pilots were from the mainland. The contest was divided into two parts; in the morning, the contest based on Task A rule was run and in the afternoon Task B was run. Since Task B is measured as duration time while Task A is measured as score from each increase of 30 second duration, the ranking lists from both Tasks were averaged to obtain the final ranking list. After a day of intensive competition, six rounds of contest for Task A were competed in the morning and five rounds of contest for Task B were competed in the afternoon. The champion of the day is Pan Hao from the mainland. His skill in thermal soaring was significantly improved since the last contest a year ago, congratulation! His convincing win is in no doubt propelling the DLG standard to a higher level and the Hong Kong team has a long way to catch up!  The organizer wishes to thank Yellow Brother's Model Mtr. Company for sponsoring a prize for this event. Here is the detailed score sheet:

Hi, guys, lets enjoy the walk to Shamchung

Is it a family day? no, we are going for a contest!

Take it easy and enjoy the walk!

Our new comer and the youngest contestant, Little Kan

Ah Kin, what happen to your deadly weapon?

Little Black Boy is busy in setting up the plane

Ah Man, something wrong with you plane?

"I am ready" said Tang Hao from mainland

Let's vote for the pilot on the best launching style:
First, Allan - he seems too painful
!

Little Black Boy is so powerful but ...

George: looks like he is dancing

Ah Mak's style is very attractive

Johnson looks like playing golf

Ah Kin has a strong foothold but ugly!

Albe's launch looks inexperience!

Ah Man's take-it-easy style

Pan Hao has a Kung Fu style

Eric's launch, well, just ...,  no comment!

Oh! Fat Fai said "No good, no good!"

Tang Hao: "I am confident"

Hey, Y.C., don't talk to much to disturb the pilot!

Good catch and re-launch!

The contest is intense

Little Fai is still too young to learn r/c flying - but he has great potential because he has a champion father!

Wow! George, very accurate but  we are not competing on spot landing today!

Planes like to swim! Lucky, this one missed the water by just one meter!

What's happen? There is an incident!

Oh, poor Alex, what happen to your electric racer?

It hit a tree and disintegrated before falling into the water - total lost

The tail of Black Boy's Enigma was peeled during launch - just spectacular!

The trophies and the prize are waiting for you to grab

We have a double second runner up - Ah Kin and George; you have to figure out how to divide the trophy

The first runner up prize goes to Tang Hao from mainland. This is the first time he came across the border to join our race, congratulation!
