The Hong Kong Radio Control Soaring Society organized a Man-On-Man contest in Clearwater Bay on Sunday, 24 January 2010. The contest attracted 10 r/c pilots who dared to race multiple 60" moldy planes in a tight course. The challenge is tough but the excitement achieved in return is certainly fulfilling. Because a perfect race matrix for 4 models requires 13 pilots, a compromise in racing arrangement for 10 pilots had to be made. After a discussion with fellow pilots participating in the contest, we finally decided to use a scheme that divided the contestants into two groups. Each group consisted of 5 pilots. A total of 5 races for each group were run, and within each group a pilot had to compete in 4 rounds. The top two pilots from each group were selected into the final. Then, a total of 4 pilots completed in the final which consisted of two races. The wind condition of the day was variable, sometimes there were strong wind and sometimes the wind was weak and off normal to the slope. This produced a very challenging environment for the contesting pilots and resulted in a large number of DNFs. In group A, the contest was intense, Mak took the lead in the first race, but he had a cut in the second race and resulted in the forth position! Stanley took two wins in Race 2 and Race 3. In Race 4, the contest was even more tense, Stanley started in the very good position initially and took the lead up to the 15 leg, but was finally overtaken by Ah Mak in the last leg by just a few inches! In group B, Lee Man and 小廣 were in a bad-luck mood, they both have many DNFs. So the closed contestants were Eric, 燦叔 and 三哥. Eric won most the races in this group followed by 燦叔. Finally, Stanley, Ah Mak from group A, and Eric, 燦叔 from group B were qualified to complete in the final. In the final, two races were conducted. Stanley again showed his accurate timing in diving down to kick start and took the lead in both races to grab the championship. Ah Mak fought hard to stay in the second position to win the 1st runner-up prize. Eric somehow did poorly in the final and won the 2nd runner-up prize. 燦叔 was a bit unlucky because he crashed his plane while missed the light signal during turn. Congratulation to the winners!
