Po Leung Kuk Sprouts Foundation Primary & Secondary Education Services Centres - Aviation Program

Oct 10, 2023 to Jan 13, 2024

Last summer, we organized a Flying Fun Day for a group of senior primary school students from the Tai Wai Centre of the Po Leung Kuk Sprouts Foundation – Primary & Secondary Education Services Centres. The response was very good. Again, upon their request, we organized a series of after-school learning activities for a group of junior secondary school students from the Centre. The objective was to inspire the kids with knowledge of aviation.
The main portion of the program spanned 7 weeks. There were 2 groups of students. Each group spent one and a half hours in the evening every week. The activities were led by volunteers from the Society. Activities included lectures on aviation history and theory, practical sessions and games with paper airplanes, hand launch gliders and walkalong gliders, and the experiencing of flight simulator on PC.
With the support and assistance of many members, they donated their time and effort to make the event a success. The students were also very motivated. They attended the classes on time and were actively engaged. Especially during the games and competitions, though they had just finished a whole day school, they were still energetic and would never let the instructors take a rest. The auditorium was full of laughter.
In the last sessions (November 21 and 23 respectively), the students gave each instructor a souvenir made by themselves. Those were thoughtful and the atmosphere was very touching.
The final activity of the entire program was a visit to the Aviation Club of Hong Kong, China, in the afternoon of January 13. There were 18 students attended. They were excited to be able to get a close touch with and even sat inside small planes and helicopters for photos. They were also very concentrated at the Club’s flight simulator, watching takeoff and landing demonstrations by the expert instructor.
