The Hong Kong Radio Control Soaring Society (HKRCSS) was invited to help organizing a handlaunch glider design contest for Y-Gen school kids in the north district by the police. The contest was held in sport ground in Fung Kai first secondary school on 28 November, 2009. The main objective of this contest is through the development of interest of model glider flying for the youngsters so that they can have a positive view on clean life and steer themselves away from drug. Through the process of designing model gliders and flying them practically, those young kids can get some insights on the aerodynamic principles of model gliding. HKRCSS is honour to be invited to help organizing such meaningful activity for the school kids. The event attracted over 16 teams of school kids participating in the contest. HKRCSS was responsible for setting up the competition rules, giving training sessions to the contestants, and also as one of the judges during the contest. A briefing session on the principles in the design of model gliders was given a week earlier on 21 November, 2009. The contest rules are given in here. On the briefing session, Y.C. first gave a talk on the aerodynamic of model flight, then followed by a talk on the construction techniques for model gliders by Ah Pong. The contest consisted of a few components. First, each contestant team needed to present their design to the audience and judges. Scores were given according to the model aerodynamic ability as well as the artistic and creativity of the design. Second, each team had to present how they can channel the concept of clean life with no drug through their designs. The third component was the model glider duration contest held outside on the grassy sport ground. They showed off their talent in the design of the contesting gliders, some of them were highly airborneable and some had very innovative shape. The event was started 9:30am in the morning and ended at around 1:30pm. Here are some photos and movies taken during the contest. |

 After the contest, Ah Pong demonstrated how to launch the plane to gain longer duration, but the model plane's wing was unfortunately flipped after launched! What's a shame! |
