HKRCSS

Chairman's Report
presented in the 2001 Annual General Meeting

Dear Fellow Members,

I have pleasure to report to you the development of HKRCSS for the past year after the formation of HKRCSS. Our club, although being only 6 months old, has experienced a tremendous growth rate. Its membership leaps forward as a quantum jump from 35 to 74 in just a short period of time! We are proud to be members of a fast-growing r/c society in Hong Kong and perhaps soon to be the largest if the growth rate continues as in the current paces. We have worked hard to enhance the privilege status of being HKRCSS's members. In this respect, we have secured favorable deals with major model shops in Hong Kong to provide discounts to our members in purchasing of goods. Last year, three committee meetings were held for the day-to-day management for our club. We have also organized some activities for our members and their guests. In summary:

  • A soaring/BBQ trip to Ma On Shan was held in 14, October 2001, for which over 50 people took part in this event. Most participants were our members, the rest although were not our members at that time, most of them subsequently joint our club and now become a part of our big families. This event really helps to enhance friendships amount us.
  • A slope combat competition was held in 11, November 2001. The event was the first of this kind ever held in the territory of Hong Kong. The number of participants is overwhelming, we are also pleased to receive sponsors from some sailplane manufacturers both from local and from oversea. This event has generated lots of publicity as it was covered by the print and TV media. As a result, more newcomers are joining the sport of r/c soaring.
  • One of our interest group, the thermal soaring group, was very active in organizing events, such as aero-tow for thermal soaring, currently they are seeking a suitable flying field for testing winch launch techniques.

Look back to what we have achieved last year is certainly amazing. Look forward, however, we still have plenty of things to do and to improve. We are actively engaged in dialogues with the Government for seeking their supports to our sport, we are working to improve the safety in our flying fields, and we are going to organize a wide varieties of activities to satisfy our members' interests. Of course, this can not be achieved without your full supports. In this opportunity, may I wish you a happy and prosperous Lunar New Year.
